⁵ If anyone denounces their friends for reward,^(A)
    the eyes of their children will fail.^(B)

    nor will I flatter anyone;^(B)

²² for if I were skilled in flattery,
    my Maker^(A) would soon take me away.^(B)

⁸ Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness^(A)
    because of my enemies—
    make your way straight^(B) before me.

⁹ Not a word from their mouth can be trusted;
    their heart is filled with malice.
Their throat is an open grave;^(A)
    with their tongues they tell lies.^(B)

³ May the Lord silence all flattering lips^(A)
    and every boastful tongue—^(B)

² In their own eyes they flatter themselves
    too much to detect or hate their sin.^(A)

¹³ This is the fate of those who trust in themselves,^(A)
    and of their followers, who approve their sayings.^[a]
